In Other Words: Vlogs.
noun. Vlog –
a blog in which the postings are primarily in video form.
a video journal uploaded to the Internet
One of the things I enjoy doing on my free time is watching daily vlogs on YouTube. One of my favorite vloggers is Judy Travis aka itsjudyslife. From Seattle, Washington she vlogs her life featuring her husband, Benji and her three daughters Julianna, Keira, and Miya.
Why I find them interesting? I like seeing how other people live their daily lives. It’s nice to see other activities on the daily other than my own. I become much more aware and feel a little bit more outside of my own world.
Judy posts on her YouTube channel every day at 12:00 pm Pacific Standard Time. Each vlog usually lasts an average of 12 minutes long. Some days are more eventful than others, but it’s always interesting to see how parents handle toddlers, especially three all around the same age.
Vlogs are more realistic than television. It’s like real reality TV. It’s more genuine than what you see on television. Obviously vlogs don’t include every aspect of a person’s life, but it’s cool to see. There’s a sense of intimacy between the Vlogger and the Viewer, as if you’re a part of their family.
However, vlogging can take up a lot of time. There are so many hours in a day. An article titled Life As A Vlogger discusses how much time and effort actually goes into making these vlogs. It may seem like it’s easy to record whatever you’re doing that day, but a vlogger needs to think of how to edit their footage properly so that viewers would actually be willing to watch and continue watching.
ItsJudysLife has over 1.5 million subscribers and over 700 million views. She didn’t get that many views by just posting unedited footage. She talks to her viewers about her experience as a parent of three children, asks for feedback and actually connects back with her viewers. The consistent intimacy and effort is probably what keeps her channel going. It’s like a relationship. You constantly have to put effort into managing the channel. It’s all strategic internet marketing. ItsJudysLife has done a great job with that, and I will continue watching because of that.
